Mexico legalizes narcotics.

its now legal to possess small amounts of pot, ecstasy, cocaine, heroin, opium, LSD, peyote, amphetamines, dexamphetamines, psp, methamphetamines for personal use.

currently their law leaves open the possibility of dropping charges against people caught with drugs if they are considered addicts and if the amount is the quantity necessary for personal use.  that would make some people call themselves addicts even if they aren’t!

wonder how many americans move to mexico cause they can use drugs without fear of going to jail?  actually maybe none.  fear never stopped me back in my using days, or anyone else i know.

what a relief

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

great day, but a relief its over.

my staff evaluation was today. 3rd one in like 20 years. the other 2 were really unpleasant.  today was great.

also my piano students recital was tonight. they all did excellent. i was so pleased the ones i was most worried about played great!

thank you god for a wonderful day.

last few days

the last few days have sucked so bad…

today’s news

Friday, April 21st, 2006

first i was reading about the illegal immigrant crackdown - 49 arrested in memphis and horn lake.  i dont mind immigrants, but illegal ones i do… can’t they take the time to get a work permit or green card?

then i was reading a website freeicer.com.  not very often someone i know from irc gets arrested - well actually maybe there are others i just don’t often hear about it like this…. i’ll refrain from comments - don’t wan to get iCER pissed at me and attack me :(

also yay for the drug sting that nets 26 from millington high school.  its good to know the cops are doing something besides waiting to get me for speeding!

more good news - a friend from irc i’ve known for 7 or so years has a new white keytag ;)

why am i not surprised

today’s paper has a short little article….

“Psychiatrists have drug firm links:

Every psychiatric expert involved in writing the standard idagnostic criteria for mental isllnesses has had financial ties to drug companies that sell medications for those illnesses.

More than half of the 170 experts who contributed to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual had such ties, including all of the experts who worked on mood disorders such as depression and psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia.  The analysis did not reveal the extent of the relationship. (Washington)”

no wonder everyone coming out of certain rehab’s particularly the ones like Lakeside are given multiple medications - anti depressants, anti psychotics, sleeping pills..

they don’t even give the people a chance to see if they really need the meds, to see if following the na program or some other 12 step program will work with medicating the individuals, to see if its depression from not having drugs that will pass after some time.

people come to meetings and go in treatment to stop using. in NA people learn to live life without the use of drugs… giving them mood and mind altering drugs is counter productive.

Happy Easter

Sunday, April 16th, 2006

Today’s the first Easter I haven’t gone to church in a while.  I did go last night. Taylor, my granddaughter was baptized.  But if not for that I’m not sure I would have gone this year.  This Holy Week at work was the most stressful ever.  This is probably TMI (too much information for those who don’t know) but one reason is probably that i started my period on good friday… so other than the normal stress of getting everything ready for easter services, i had the hormonal thing going on too.

I’m anxious about today - my brother will be at Easter lunch.  I haven’t seen him in over 10 years.

I do love where i work and go to church, but sometimes i just need a break.  at least this is a 3 day weekend!  although i was there saturday twice - once to make a correction to the bulletin, and then last night for the baptism.  i’ll be there tonight for my homegroup.  so i’ll actually get 1 day to stay away completely.

i really need to do a couple of things this weekend - contact all my piano students and remind them about the rehearsal this saturday.  contact the addiction and recovery commission about the april 30 meeting.

have a happy easter everyone!

expectations

Tuesday, April 11th, 2006

i hate when i expect something to happen and it doesn’t.

sometimes its not cause someone says they’re gonna do something, i just expect they will - either cause they’ve done it all along or they said they would ‘try’.

i really have no right to get upset, particularly if its not something the person said they were going to do.

but sometimes i still do.

i guess i disappoint people too from time to time.

its a perfect time to look for the good and be grateful

ups and downs

Saturday, April 8th, 2006

today was mostly a good day… at least it balanced out to that.

i got a tad frustrated at email problems, and then the electricity went off for about an hour.

so i decided to go to a movie - Thank you for Smoking.  It was pretty funny.  At times it seems to drag on and be a little slow, but i did enjoy it.

then i met with a sponsee and went over her 6th step. thats always a good thing to do, then to a meeting.

now i’m home baby sitting and watching my grand daughter sleep and waiting for a friend to get online :)

so thats my day!

severe weather

Friday, April 7th, 2006

i’m trying not to be scared here..

The weather report says:

A DANGEROUS…POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING…TORNADO OUTBREAK IS
FORECAST ACROSS MUCH OF THE MID-SOUTH TODAY AND TONIGHT. THE
BEST TIME FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IS BETWEEN NOON AND 2 AM.

TORNADOES…VERY
LARGE HAIL…AND DAMAGING STRAIGHT LINE WINDS ARE ALL POSSIBLE
ACROSS THE MID-SOUTH. STRONG AND TURNING WIND FIELDS THROUGHOUT THE ATMOSPHERE WILL ALLOW FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF STRONG TORNADOES…
ESPECIALLY IN THE HIGH RISK AREA.

and memphis is in the high risk area :(
